The Heroin Epidemic: Then and Now – Lessons Learned

Please join former DEA Administrator Peter Bensinger and former NIDA Director Robert DuPont, MD, who will outline the steps taken during the late 1970s to reduce the supply of heroin in the United States to increase the price and reduce the purity, with direct impact on the number of heroin users and overdose deaths. Former Administrator Bensinger will discuss at least two major heroin initiatives, Operation Heroin B and Operation Trizo. Dr. DuPont will highlight the crucial role of DEA, and law enforcement generally, in a public health approach to the heroin epidemic and lessons learned from the 1970s heroin epidemic.
